Description
Äimätär is the Mother (’emuu’) of wolves. She knows the birth of iron and swamps, and the birth of wolves, which occurred in the wildest of places. She knows that the true gift of swamp is a state of decay, purity and authenticity. Such are also the gifts of Wolf. She may not be the loveliest of creatures, but she is true, and she is essential to the well-being of all.
Her medicine has a scent of Moss (Sphagnum), True Lover’s Knot (Paris quadrifolia, ‘Sudenmarja’ or Wolf berry) and Marsh Labrador Tea (Rhododendron tomentosum).
Like the wolves, her being and habitat has been narrowed down and even destroyed, but she does not deserve our hate, but our respect and kinship. She reminds us of our evolutionary roots with every living being, our place as a part of this world, our true untamed nature.
